Raven's Used Bookstore Closing

So Raven is closing in downtown Amherst. The Northampton one shall stay open (it's owned by someone else now). But the reason for the closing is due to the new Raven opening in Cambridge. The store clerk said that Amherst has good clientel, but lacks the necessary numbers to keep it running. So sad . . . :-(

Amherst is a rotten place for retail. A small town....with very overpriced retail space..thx to a few volumn property holders. I have seen so so many businesses come and go over the past 20 years. Amherst is not Northampton, no matter how much it thinks it is. I recently had to price space in Amherst for Laos Bookstore and I will tell you, the going rate for space in Amherst makes it pretty darn hard to survive... unless you "know" somebody.
